Spiced Winter Tea Loose Leaf 80g – A Little Spice for Every Season

There’s something rather lovely about the aroma of a freshly brewed pot of spiced tea.

It brings to mind warm kitchens, good company and the simple pleasure of finding a few minutes to yourself.

Our Spiced Winter Tea Loose Leaf 80g combines rich Kenyan and Assam black teas with seven fragrant spices to create a wonderfully warming and aromatic cuppa.

With allspice, ginger, cinnamon, cassia, star anise, clove and nutmeg, this is a blend with plenty of character, a comforting aroma and a deliciously spiced finish.

But don’t let the name fool you.

Although it might sound like a tea reserved for colder months, we think it’s far too good to spend most of the year tucked away in the cupboard.

Whether you’re enjoying a warming mug on a chilly morning or a refreshing glass of iced spiced tea in the sunshine, this is a blend to enjoy throughout the year.

After all, who decided spices were only for Christmas?

A Rich Blend of Kenyan and Assam Black Teas

At the heart of our Spiced Winter Tea is a combination of Kenyan tea and Assam tea, two black teas that bring plenty of body and character to the cup.

Kenyan tea contributes a lively, robust flavour, while Assam adds a rich, malty depth.

Together, they create a satisfying foundation for the aromatic spices.

The black tea is full-bodied enough to hold its own alongside the spices, without allowing any one flavour to dominate.

It’s a lovely combination for those who enjoy a traditional black tea but fancy something a little different.

And as the tea begins to brew, the fragrance rising from the teapot is almost as inviting as the finished cuppa.

Seven Spices, Each Bringing Something Different

What makes Spiced Winter Tea so enjoyable is the combination of seven carefully chosen spices.

Allspice brings a rich, rounded flavour with naturally warming aromatic notes.

Ginger adds a lively little kick, giving the blend a gentle warmth.

Cinnamon contributes its familiar sweet, woody fragrance.

Cassia, a close relative of cinnamon, brings a deeper, more robust spiced note.

Star anise adds a distinctive aromatic sweetness, with a subtle liquorice-like character.

Clove contributes a rich, fragrant warmth that works beautifully with the black tea.

And nutmeg rounds everything off with its gently sweet, aromatic flavour.

Together, these spices create a wonderfully fragrant blend that’s rich, warming and beautifully balanced.

There’s plenty going on in the cup, but nothing needs to shout to be noticed.

What Does Spiced Winter Loose Leaf Tea Taste Like?

Our Spiced Winter Tea produces a rich, coppery-brown infusion with a wonderfully inviting spiced aroma.

The first impression is the full-bodied, malty character of the Kenyan and Assam black teas.

Then come the spices.

Cinnamon and cassia bring a gentle sweetness, ginger adds a lively warmth, and allspice, clove and nutmeg provide a rounded, fragrant depth.

Star anise introduces a distinctive aromatic note that lingers pleasantly in the background.

The result is a satisfying black tea with a beautifully spiced character and a smooth, warming finish.

Enjoy it without milk to appreciate the different spices, or add a splash of milk for a softer, creamier cuppa.

A little honey or sugar can also be rather lovely if you prefer your spiced tea slightly sweeter.

It’s the sort of tea that works just as well in your favourite everyday mug as it does in a teapot brought out when friends visit.

No special occasion required.

Naturally Caffeinated and Full of Character

Because Spiced Winter Tea contains Kenyan and Assam black teas, it naturally contains caffeine.

Unlike herbal infusions such as rooibos, this blend has the familiar character of traditional black tea alongside its fragrant spices.

That makes it a lovely choice for breakfast, a mid-morning break or an afternoon cuppa.

The amount of caffeine in your cup will depend on how much tea you use and how long you allow it to brew.

If you enjoy warming spices but would prefer something naturally caffeine-free, our Spiced Winter Rooibos Loose Leaf Tea 80g is a lovely alternative.

It combines smooth rooibos with fragrant spices, offering a different interpretation of that familiar warming flavour.

Two lovely blends, each with its own personality.

The Pleasure of Brewing Loose Leaf Spiced Tea

There’s something particularly satisfying about making a pot of loose leaf tea.

You can see the tea leaves and spices together, enjoy their fragrance as they infuse and adjust the strength to suit your taste.

A roomy tea infuser or teapot with a strainer allows the ingredients to circulate freely, helping the flavours develop.

And because you’re making loose leaf tea, you have the freedom to use a little more or less depending on how strong you like your cuppa.

Perhaps you prefer a lighter infusion with the fragrant spices gently coming through.

Or maybe you enjoy a fuller, more robust black tea flavour.

Either way, the choice is yours.

Sometimes the pleasure is as much in making the tea as drinking it.

Although we wouldn’t want the kettle to think it’s doing all the hard work!

How to Brew Spiced Winter Tea Loose Leaf

For a deliciously aromatic cup, we suggest:

  • Use approximately one heaped teaspoon of loose leaf tea per person, around 2g.
  • Pour over freshly boiled water at 100°C.
  • Allow the tea to infuse for approximately 3–7 minutes, depending on your preferred strength.
  • Strain and enjoy.

For a lighter cup, begin with a shorter infusion.

If you prefer a stronger black tea flavour, use a little more tea rather than leaving it to brew for too long, as black tea can become more astringent with extended steeping.

Enjoy it naturally, add a splash of milk or sweeten to taste.

A little honey can work particularly well with the aromatic spices.

These quantities and timings are only suggestions.

It’s your cuppa, after all.

A Comforting Spiced Tea with Milk

Spiced Winter Tea is particularly lovely with milk, which softens the richness of the black tea and gives the spices a smooth, rounded finish.

For a creamier drink, try preparing a slightly stronger infusion using less water than usual. Once brewed, strain the tea and top up with warm milk or your favourite plant-based alternative.

A little honey or sugar can be added if you enjoy a sweeter spiced tea.

It’s a simple way to create a comforting drink without needing complicated ingredients or special equipment.

And if you’re sharing a pot with friends, it’s rather nice to offer both milk and honey so everyone can make their cuppa just the way they like it.

Refreshing Iced Spiced Winter Tea

Although Spiced Winter Tea has a wonderfully cosy character, it also makes a delicious iced tea.

The rich black tea and fragrant spices create an interesting alternative to traditional iced tea, with plenty of flavour even when served chilled.

For one generous glass:

  1. Add one heaped teaspoon of Spiced Winter Tea Loose Leaf to 125ml of freshly boiled water.
  2. Allow it to brew for approximately 4–5 minutes.
  3. Strain and sweeten to taste while still warm, if you wish.
  4. Add 125ml of cold water and allow the tea to cool.
  5. Serve over plenty of ice.

For a little extra flavour, try adding a slice of orange.

The bright citrus character makes a lovely contrast to the aromatic spices.

You could also add a thin slice of fresh ginger for an extra warming note, even when the drink itself is cold.

It’s a lovely choice for garden gatherings, relaxed afternoons or simply when you fancy something a little different.

Who says winter spices can’t enjoy a summer holiday?

Not Just for Christmas

With a name like Spiced Winter Tea, you might be forgiven for thinking this blend belongs exclusively to the festive season.

But we think good flavour deserves a little more freedom than that.

On cooler days, enjoy it freshly brewed with a splash of milk and perhaps a biscuit or two.

During warmer weather, serve it over ice with orange for a refreshing alternative to ordinary black tea.

It also makes a lovely accompaniment to homemade cakes, fruit loaf and spiced biscuits.

And when Christmas does come around, its fragrant character certainly feels right at home.

But there’s absolutely no need to pack it away with the decorations in January.

A good cuppa is welcome every month of the year.
